Hey Larry, the bottom line answer is YES, the new Apex will run fine on 87 octane. There is a DCS (detonation control system) that will adjust the ignition to compensate for low octane fuel. Worse case you may experience a slight drop in horsepower. Whenever possible it is best to run premium fuel but you won't damage the engine using regular. It really is a 'worse case scenario' deal where if you use low octane or stale gas under high load, high temp running conditions, some detonation may occur and the system will be engaged. It won't happen all the time with 87, in fact it may not happen at all but factory always errs to the lowest common denominator hence the dire warnings.... cheers cr

Hey Chris, will the new apex motor run on 87 octane? There is a bit of confusion on this and I figure you would know.
Thanks, Larry

Hi Chris,

I noticed the Apex that set the world record has a set of factory wheels on the rail near the rear arm. Will this come on the production sled? If not is there a kit we can buy with the exact same wheel? Can't find it in the catalog. Oh, I can't wait to get this sled!!!!!!! Going to be a long summer!!!!!! LOL

Thanks, Larry

Bracebridge Yamaha bolted on a couple of pairs of the small 'marginal snow wheel kits' just in case, as far as I know they are the same ones we make available as an accessory item... cheers cr

Hi Chris.
Having 35 years of Yamaha snowmobile ownership and riding over 150,000 kilometers on Yammie sleds, you might say I am a loyal customer. I love the Apex and Vector sleds that Yamaha is producing but nothing is perfect and there is room for improvement. The competition is kicking butt with the little extras that speak to driver comfort, heated seat, adjustable handlebars, etc. How about a compass and temperature readout for Yammies? How about a touring package for the Apex and Vector which includes tall windshield, mirrors, luggage, coolant heater. Also Yamaha is missing a niche market, the older traditional sledder who does not do enough snowmobiling to justify spending big bucks. Why not take the 80hp 2 cylinder 4 stroker with reverse and put it in a more traditional body and sell it for the same price as a Phaser. There are many people who bought the old 2 stroke Phaser who will not buy the current one but still would love to have a cheap trail sled with the Yamaha proven reliability.
That's all for now. Thanks for listening.

Bruce.

Thanks Bruce, your comments will go a long way in delivering the message, I have taken the liberty to share... cheers cr

Hi Chris
I read somewhere(on TY I think) the 2011 Apex SE had a little more HP than the standard 2011 Apex. Can't see this but have to ask. I plan on purchasing the standard Apex.

Thanks, Larry

Larry, HP is the same, the SE is a little lighter so HP / WT is a wee bit better but really all you are looking at is the shock package cheers cr

Hey Chris, i've got a question about warranty. What is the max warranty Yamaha offers on new sleds, and do they offer more in the U.S.? Are there mileage limitations? And finally, are there 3rd party companies that offer longer warranties that dealers sell/endorse?

Thanks
YK

Hey YK factory warranty is one year globally, YMUS and YMCA both offer additional 'service contracts', which is an extension of the factory warranty but not administered by the mother ship, not aware of mileage limitations but I'd be checking the fine print depending on the model and application.
cheers

Good afternoon Chris,
I was attending the dealer meeting in Sudbury for the release of the 2011 Apex.
I know they have the new heated grips on them, but I do recall you making mention of an accesory that wired into the older apex's that warmed up the grips considerably more than stock, i was wondering if you could tell me the name of that accesory.

Thanks,
Dean

Hey Dean, as I mentioned at the dealer meeting, I could never endorse the Yamaheater device as it will modify your system and has not been tested or approved by Yamaha. It runs in tandem with the stock heater switch having the ability to let the ECU give maximum power to the grips at low rpm. There is a good TY thread that covers everything you need to know. Tell Rock I said hello. note: This comment was typed by very warm fingers ;-) cheers cr

Chris,
I have a concern about the tric ice scratchers. Back in December, I bought and broke the old ones which are suppose to be replace with an updated set. I have checked with the dealer on numerous occasions and they tell me now it will be March before they receive them. As our snow here in Newfoundland is at a premium this year, I am concerned that I will not get them for the spring conditions here. Why is it taking so long for the dealer to receive the updated Tric scratchers?
Thanks for any comments on this

Sean, I tested the new scratchers on my own sled this past weekend and they appear ready for production. We have had a struggle getting them right but I wasn't prepared to sign off on them until we knew they would hold up. There is one more test result required. We should be shipping very soon. We have the Scorchers brand in stock which work excellent providing you stow them before using reverse. Sorry for the delay,,, cheers cr
